 Real Estate Tax Definitions

PIN (Parcel Identification Number) : This twelve digit number is specifically assigned to your real property.

District : There are a number of Special Tax districts throughout the County in addition to the Regular Tax District (District 1). Your parcel, if within one of the special tax districts, may have an additional tax due. The five special districts within the county are:

Supplement : A construction supplemental tax bill represents an increase in assessed value for new construction completed after the original January 1 assessment for each year. A supplemental assessment could be for new structures, home, deck, or additions and renovations to your existing house. It could also be for a house or structure that was under construction as of January 1, and has since been completed. The construction supplement bill is generally only for the improvements on a lot, and does not include any taxes that may be due for land associated with the structure.

Prior /Past Due Amount : This represents the total of all prior years and current year taxes, penalties, interest and associated collection fees assessed late that are attributable to the property. A tax is past due if a full payment has not been received by its due date. If payment has recently been made, it may not be reflected in our totals. If you have past due amounts, please contact our Office at 703-777-0280 to ensure collection actions are not currently being pursued.

Current YR Tax -1st Half : Current year tax - first half represents those taxes that are currently due for the first half of the year. First half tax bills are available in early spring. First half taxes are due on June 5th. Special due dates with penalty waiver dates are occasionally granted for new property to the county. Special waiver dates would be clearly noted on your bills.

Current year first half balances will automatically be displayed in the PRIOR/PAST DUE TAX balances if not paid by the due date.

Current YR Tax - 2nd Half : Current year tax - second half represents those taxes that are currently due for the second half of the year. Second half tax bills are available in mid fall. Second half taxes are due on December 5th. Special due dates with penalty waiver dates are occasionally granted for new property to the county. Special waiver dates would be clearly noted on your bills.

Current year second half balances will automatically be displayed in the PRIOR/PAST DUE TAX balances if not paid by the due date.

Total Taxes : This is the current year (1st and 2nd half) and prior/past due tax on the account displayed.
